Welcome to St. Katharine'sA Hidden Urban OasisThe Royal Foundation of St. Katharine, at Limehouse in East London, is a charitable Conference and Retreat centre serving the Church of England and other churches and charities. It is also available for selective use by voluntary sector and public sector bodies and commercial companies. Individuals from home and overseas in London on church or charitable business are welcome to stay. We offer an attractive setting for Meetings, Conferences, Seminars, Receptions, Retreats and Quiet Days in the centre of London between the City and Canary Wharf. We are a hidden urban oasis amidst London’s urban turmoil where people can meet together away from the rush of daily life to discuss, think and plan. St. Katharine’s is one of the oldest religious foundations in Great Britain, was founded in 1147 by Queen Matilda, the wife of King Stephen, as a hospital for the poor, outside the walls of the Tower of London. It remained there for 678 years until the construction of St. Katharine Docks in 1825. |
